Who we are:
The Soap Works is a family-owned natural soap company proudly located in Toronto, Canada.
For over 30 years, we have offered the widest selection of affordable all-natural specialty soaps that are uniquely formulated to help people cope with all their particular skin sensitivities. With our simple approach from creation to production, our products are true testaments to our care for ourselves, each other and our environment.
Our soap is manufactured using a variety of different methods to maximize the effectiveness of a particular bar. We use mill process to make formed bars, hot process that pours a melted soap mixture from large steam kettles into large molds, and cold process, where the chemical reaction of the soap ingredients creates enough heat to saponify the oils into a natural soap. We carefully select the process to ensure that the natural ingredients in the bars are unchanged and its benefits are not lost or adulterated.
How it all began:
The Soap Works was founded in 1982 by Bob and Mike, both of which had sensitive skin easily irritated by mass market soaps and washes. Their plan was to create soap products that wouldn’t disturb the skin or Mother Earth; and they did just that.
The Soap Works started with only several hand-cut bars and now today we offer more than 30 products, all of which use minimal packaging that keep Bob and Mike’s dream alive.
Even with our compassion and love for making soap, we have hit some bumps in the road. Most recently, we made the difficult decision of adding barcode stickers, a request which was made by several retailers. We did so using the smallest barcode labels available that would adhere to the soaps’ surface. These are recyclable in most jurisdictions and printed with vegetable-based ink.
Despite the many obstacles that come our way, hearing the feedback from our customers who have finally discovered a remedy for their skin sensitivity, has and continues to motivate us. Because that’s what Bob and Mike wanted all those years ago, was to make natural and therapeutic soap.
